Question
May we use digital printed material to print on in our laser printer?
Answer
Laser Printers use heat to apply a toner to the paper. All pre-printed material that is to be run through a Laser Printer should be printed with "laser safe inks" the problem is that the heat will in some cases cause the ink to stick or peel and stick to your laser printer drum.
There are two forms of digital printing one form uses toner and the other form uses conventional inks. Pre-printed Digital printing with toner should never be used to run back through a laser printer, this could cause expensive repairs and the replacement of the drum in your laser printer.

Question
What type of files do I need to provide to a service provider for quality printing?
Answer
For a quality printed job your service provider needs all photographs and art in CMYK mode in either a Tiff file or EPS file with a resolution of 300 dpi. All fonts that are used in that publication need to be included in a folder on your disk that is provided to your service provider.
Many Service providers are now accepting PDF files for printing. These files need to have the correct settings for a quality job. Mode is CMYK and you should choose the option for printing rather than for viewing.

Question
May I send my files via of the internet?
Answer
Yes, you should always check with your service provider to see how they wish to receive files. (Remember, most email accounts limit file size to a total of 10 mega bytes). Also, files should be compressed using zip-it or some other file compression utility. Check with your service provider. You should also, request conformation of your job being received and a proof of the job in PDF format for general appearance should you be unable to see a hard proof. Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free download from the Adobe site (www.adobe.com)

Question
Why did my job not look like my original layout?
Answer
Most Service Providers use some form of image processor for a rip. These are high level processors for ripping files to imagesetters, plates or printers. Many times a customer may not include a post script font needed for a job and a default font will be used that has different specifications than the original font causing line breaks or text to flow onto another line. Art and/or photographs may be missing and images from the screen resolution were created rather than the master file, another problem area is that Art and/or photographs were in RGB Mode rather than CMYK. Reviewing a proof prior to final approval will always address these problems.
